SOCIOLOGY 111: Introduction to Sociology (3)
     
Why? Sociology has a unique contribution to make as people strive to better understand themselves, their immediate environment, and the society in which they live. An understanding of the “sociological imagination” enables people to move toward accomplishing both personal and collective goals.
Content: Typically, brief exposure to theories and methods in sociology, major elements of social organization, social problems in different societies, major social institutions, social change.
Format: Lecture/discussion.
Evaluation: Varies, but typically, objective or essay exams, possibly short written assignments or papers.
Required for: Nursing, Physical Therapy, Health Administration and Dental Hygiene majors.
Recommended for: Physician's Assistant majors, students interested in Social Science, Education and Business.
What Next? Sociology and Social Work majors should take Sociology 312; others should take any
300-level course.
