POLITICAL SCIENCE 232: Basic Ideas in Political Theory (3 credit hours)
   
Why? This course provides an overview of the history of political philosophy. We also examine four prominent political philosophers: Plato, Machiavelli, Rousseau, and Nietzsche (the list may vary). We read at least one literary work, such as Antigone or Billy Budd, which contains explicitly political themes.
Content: Justice, different types of regimes, different ideas of history, liberty, equality, feminism, and religion.
Format: Mostly discussion.
Evaluation: Short papers, essay final.
Prerequisites: English 101-102 is recommended.
