MATHEMATICS 531: Introduction to the History of Mathematics (3)
     
Why? A study of the history of mathematics gives a perspective of the evolution of mathematical thought and its relationship to the development of the sciences and other related areas.
Content: A study of the development of mathematics from antiquity to modern times.
Format: Lecture.
Evaluation: Problem-solving and essay exams.
Prerequisites: Math 511 and two additional mathematics courses at the 500 level or above. Informal-desired prerequisites are English 101-102.
Required for: BA in Mathematics and Secondary Mathematics Education.
Recommended for: Anyone majoring in a mathematics intensive discipline.
