MATHEMATICS 144: Business Calculus (3)
     
Why? The study of business calculus is essential for understanding most areas of applied mathematics in business and the social sciences.
Content: Covers differential calculus and its applications to business and introduces the integral and techniques of integration.
Format: Lecture.
Evaluation: Problem-solving exams.
Prerequisites: Math 111 with a grade of C or better or equivalent high school preparation. Note that credit will not be given in both Math 144 & 242.
Required for: All business majors.
Recommended for: Biological and social science majors.

MATHEMATICS 242: Calculus I (5)
     
Why? Calculus is the basic mathematical foundation for studying the sciences and engineering.
Content: First of a three semester sequence. Math 242 covers differential calculus and introduces the integral.
Format: Lecture.
Evaluation: Problem-solving exams.
Prerequisites: Math 112 with a grade of C or better or equivalent high school preparation or Math 111 and Math 123. Note that credit will not be given in both Math 144 & 242.
Required for: Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geology, Mathematics, Physics and Statistics majors.
Recommended for: Economics majors.
