GREEK 223: Intermediate Greek (3)
     
Why? This course will fulfill part of the LAS language requirement. Readings in Greek literature increase understanding of Greek culture and of Western civilization. The readings serve as well to increase appreciation of Greek literature in particular and to develop the esthetic sense in general.
Content: The students review past work, complete the study of the necessary grammar and vocabulary, and achieve some self-expression through Greek prose composition. They then study selected excerpts of the best Greek prose and poetry. 
Format: Recitation and discussion, with some Greek prose composition.
Evaluation: Two tests, a midterm and a final examination.
Prerequisites: Two years high school or two semesters of college Greek.
Required for: Greek minors, the LAS language requirement in Greek, and the field major in Classical Studies (unless Latin is chosen).
Recommended for: Students of English, Linguistics, Modern Languages, Philosophy, Religion, or Ancient, Medieval or Renaissance History.
