Why? Cultures from ancient to present times have employed dance for aesthetic and ritual expression; American dance of the past century is well represented in this tradition. This course seeks to create a foundation for the appreciation and enjoyment of American dance forms.
Content: An exploration/overview of American dance in the 20th century.
Format: Lecture/discussion; readings, videos and films.
Evaluation: Objective and essay questions; performance reports.
