Chemistry is elemental to the structure of all matter around us. All of life and living is a chemical process. To introduce the student to chemistry, the department offers several levels of Introductory Chemistry. The basic difference between these courses is: the level of mathematical and science background is presupposed.
Chemistry 101, The Science of Chemistry, provides a chemistry background for the nonscience student and has no prerequisites.
Chemistry 103, General Chemistry, requires one year of high school algebra (or Math 011) and includes a laboratory experience. Students in the health professions who need a one-semester course surveying many areas of chemistry usually take this course.
Chemistry 110, Preparatory Chemistry, (not a General Education course) is a one semester preparatory course for students who need the regular college chemistry sequence 211-212, but have not had Chemistry or Physics in high school.
Chemistry 211, General Chemistry, is the first semester of chemistry for students who expect to major in the sciences or engineering.
