Catalog Requirements
for Transition Semester

Wichita State University

Forms to apply for a Transition Semester are available in your College.

To accommodate students in their adjustment to college, they may be eligible for a special "transition" semester. The transition semester is a student's first regular (fall or spring) semester at Wichita State University regardless of the number of hours attempted. Therefore students who have prior experience at another institution during a regular semester are not entitled to a transition semester.

The processing of a transition semester results in grades of A, B and C being noted on the student's transcript as Credit (CR); grades of D and F are noted as No Credit (NCr). These designations have no impact on the student's grade point average calculations. However, college level courses (100 and above) with grade of "credit" count toward graduation hours.

The student must meet the following requirements to be awarded a transition semester:

  1. First regular semester of college is at Wichita State University. Enrolling in courses as a high school student or during a sum mer session does not qualify as a regular semester. However, a student may request courses taken as a high school guest or during a summer session at Wichita State be considered a transition semester.
  2. Grade point average (gpa) for the first regular semester must be below 2.0.
  3. The next semester of enrollment must be at Wichita State to be eligible for a Transition Semester.
  4. Student must complete 6 or more graded hours with a mini mum gpa of 2.0. Courses with "Credit/No Credit" assessments are not counted towards the minimum hours.
  5. After grades are issued at the end of the qualifying semester, student completes a form in his/her college office requesting a transition semester.

Students who fail to meet these requirements will not be awarded a transition semester and will be subject to the appropriate probation or dismissal standards.
