Advising Feedback Sheet
How To Use It
Assessment and evaluation are
crucial to development and improvement of advisors and advising
services. The following is but one example of a student
feedback form which is used in the LAS Advising Center. It was
designed to be easy to complete, simple to administer, and to
provide rapid turn around time to advisors.
Some considerations regarding its
development and use:
- Decide which elements of
advising you want to assess.
- Select items from the
following list or devise your own.
- Consider your population and
departmental/college procedures, i.e., how many items
will students likely respond to in the time period and
context you administer? For example, if the instrument is
provided at the end of each advising session, clear
instructions need to be given to advisors, students, and
staff who may collect the completed surveys. The number
of items probably should be limited to ten or less to
encourage student completion.
- Decide how you will
distribute and collect it.
- Decide when the survey will
be given (all the time or periodically).
- Decide if and how the
results will be shared and used. Our bias is in favor of
returning the forms to each advisor and provide group
averages for that advisor to consider. The intent is to
promote improvement through feedback.
