To assist you when advising student-athletes, the following guidelines have been provided:
The student-athletes, in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations, must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours each semester. Courses below "100" level do count towards the 12 hour per semester total.
In order to be eligible for competition the next year, student- athletes must pass 24 hours in a year. Courses below "100" level count toward the 24 hour total only during the student-athlete's freshman year, and only to a limit of 12 such hours.
In 1992, the NCAA imposed restrictions regarding the use of hours earned in summer school toward satisfactory progress. Any student- athlete who plans to use summer school hours toward eligibility should contact Athletic Student Services.
According to NCAA regulations, student-athletes must designate a specific baccalaureate program prior to their fifth semester of enrollment.
All student-athletes with declared programs, no matter what their year of enrollment, must pass 24 hours toward the designated degree each year. If you have any questions about these hours, contact Athletic Student Services. Students listed as "Deciding" may use any hours (100 level and above) toward their 24 hours per year.
Each student-athlete has the option of enrolling in his/her varsity sport. These are listed in the Schedule of Courses under Physical Education/Varsity Activities (KSS 110). Enrollment in this course should be in addition to a minimum of 12 academic hours.
All student-athletes in their first semester at WSU are required to enroll in LASI 100 (PASS Program: Athletes--- 2 credit hours). Student-athletes should see Larry Callis, LAS Advising Center, for permission to enroll in this restricted class. Enrollment in this course should be in addition to a minimum of 12 academic hours.
Each sport will have its own time requirement for practice in the afternoons and its own travel schedule. Student-athletes are responsible for k nowing their own requirements.
All student-athletes should bring their schedules to the Athletic Student Services Office for review of NCAA compliance before they register. NO SCHEDULE CHANGES WILL BE MADE WITHOUT AN ADVISOR'S APPROVAL.
Any student-athlete making a schedule change at a time other than regular enrollment must first obtain an advisor's signature, then that of one of the athletic academic coordinators before making the change at the Enrollment and Payment Offices. Athletic Student Services will keep copies of the Add or Drop forms with advisors' signatures.
The teams that these policies affect are: baseball, men's/women's basketball, men's/women's cross country and track, men's/women's golf, men's/women's tennis, softball and volleyball.
Do not hesitate to contact Athletic Student Services at extension 3272 if you have any questions about advising NCAA student-athletes.
