LAS ADVISING CENTER
PETITIONING GUIDELINES
These Guidelines will help you
fill out a complete petition. Please read carefully when you are
filling out your petition. Follow-up is your responsibility.
Although results will be mailed to you, you may call the LAS
Exceptions Secretary at WSU-3700 on or after the date indicated
below. If you have not received the Committee results by mail
within five working days, check with the LAS Exceptions Secretary
to be sure you have met all requirements and/or your correct
address has been provided.
ADMISSION/READMISSION:
Part I Request admission or readmission for a specific
semester or summer term.
Part II Attach a separate typed page that includes your name, your MYWSUID, address, zip, phone and email address.
- Explain the reasons for
previous low grades, including any circumstances or
unusual events which contributed to these grades. Provide
written documentation (i.e. letter from physician or
employer, a medical statement, a newspaper clipping)
making sure pertinent dates are clearly indicated. State what you have
been doing since you last attended school and why you believe things will now be different. Specify particular actions you will take to improve your grade point average if you
are accepted by the University. Indicate courses you may
be interested in and include success courses
if appropriate, i.e., LASI 102 - Topics in Career
Exploration to help with career and major choices; LASI
100A Adult Seminar which is designed for adults who have
not attended college or are returning after several years
away; LASI 101 Introduction to the University which is
designed for academic success & connection to the
university.
- Provide copies of all
transcripts if you have attended other schools.
To expedite review and determination by the Exceptions
Committee, progress reports issued by instructors in
currently enrolled classes, grade cards or a student copy
of transcripts will be sufficient. However, if
admission/readmission is approved, an official transcript
must be sent from your other schools directly to the WSU
Transcript Office. Submission of incomplete or
incorrect transcripts is grounds for permanent dismissal.
LATE WITWHDRAWAL FROM A PRIOR
SEMESTER:
Part I Request permission to late withdraw from specific
courses (including the section numbers) for a specific semester
or summer term.
Part II Attach a separate typed page that includes your name, your MYWSUID, address, zip, phone and email address.

of that semester. Provide written
documentation (i.e., letter from physician or
employer, a medical statement, a newspaper clipping)
making sure pertinent dates are clearly indicated.
- You must complete a drop
form for each class and/or lab. A Request to Late
Withdraw form must also be completed and
signed by the instructor(s). The instructor should
provide written support, if any, on this form. If the

course department supply the information. In certain
circumstances this may not be required. You may discuss
it with the advisor explaining the petitioning process to
you.
LATE ADD/REGISTRATION:
Part I Request permission to Late Add or Late Enroll in
specific course(s). An add form with the instructor's signature
for each course you want to Late Add must accompany the petition.

signature, and your advisor's signature must accompany the
petition for late registration.
Part II Attach a separate typed page that includes your name, your MYWSUID, address, zip, phone and email address.
- State the reason for the
lateness of your request. State whether or not you
have been attending class, know the specific requirements
for catching up and have received the instructor's
permission to add or register for each class late.
- Secure the signatures of all
instructors whose classes are listed on the petition to
demonstrate the support of those instructors for

The instructor(s) should provide his written support, if
any, on this form.
